The RHC Department of Anaesthesia has 25 paediatric consultant anaesthetists (18 general consultants, 6 cardiac consultants, 1 PICU) and 3 consultants with joint adult and paediatric practice.
RHC is a major trauma centre
All surgical specialities are performed in RHC. RHC holds the National Contracts for paediatric Cardiac Surgery, Interventional Cardiology, ECMO, renal transplantation, cleft palate surgery, complex airway surgery, chest wall surgery and is the lead centre for PICU in Scotland. The National Paediatric Critical Care Transport Service is run jointly with Edinburgh. Critical care is provided in a 21 bed combined PICU/HDU. There is a co-located maternity hospital with NICU on campus, and neonatal surgery features prominently. The department provides an acute pain service co-ordinated by Dr Ewan Wallace and our Clinical Nurse Specialists and senior staff nurses, and a chronic pain service led by Dr Ross Fairgrieve.Paediatric Advanced/Specialist Interest Area Training Post
RHC offer a 12 month advanced/specialist interest area training post, nationally advertised and open to UK anaesthetists with a NTN and at ST6 or equivalent at commencement of the post. There is also the opportunity for WOSSA trainees to apply for a 6 month post. This forms part of the West of Scotland Training Programme in Anaesthesia, has training approval from the Royal College of Anaesthetists and will conform to the formal training guidelines laid out in the Royal College documents. The post will be based at the RHC, Glasgow.
